How Long Is A Giraffe's Tongue?!

One of the MANY fun things to do at The Lowry Park Zoo is to feed the giraffes. My son has done this on numerous occasions, so imagine our surprise when one of the giraffe's completely UNFURLED his sixteen-inch tongue and grabbed onto his little finger! Giraffes have been known to use their tongues just like we use our hand; they can even take camera straps off the shoulders of unsuspecting shutterbugs! Though this RARELY happens, it has in fact happened before. Just like the pulling of my son's little tiny finger as he tried to feed the giraffe a Wasa cracker. My son screamed bloody murder ... simply from being startled ... but alas he is back to feeding the beautiful, magnificent creatures only months later! "Voted the #1 Family Friendly Zoo in America.," by Child Magazine - From OM2A™, this zoo must be on your radar screen when you visit Tampa! Oh, and be sure to bring swimsuits and towels for your children ... the water-play area is fabulous on a hot summer days!
