Huge Loss for Us, Big Gain for Heaven

I must take a moment to honor Tim Russert and his life - as well as pay respects to his family, friends and colleagues. Tim Russert's death is an extremely sad note for all of America.  My husband and I sat there, as I am sure millions of American's did, teary eyed and choked up as we watched the tribute to such a great man.  I can not even imagine the pain it took for Tom Brokaw to report the death of his own 'brethren.'  Learning that Russert was a devout Catholic, dedicated father, devoted friend and loving son made me admire this man that much more.  His book, Big Russ and Me, was a tribute to his father - and clearly exemplified a man of great respect for his dad.   Though I am not a huge follower of politics Russert made every event clear and understandable to me on 'Meet The Press.' Quite frankly, I cannot imagine following politics without him.

Our country, and especially kids today, can take to heart so many lessons from his life:

Honor your parents.
Unconditionally love your children.
Unconditionally love your spouse.
Friendships are ties that bind.
Your life is best served when you choose a career you are PASSIONATE about.
Stand up for all you believe in.
Love life.
Exemplify Biblical values and have an intimate relationship with your Lord and Saviour.

"Our world has lost a magnificent human being - but I believe the heavens now rejoice as they embrace a divine one." ~DKG

I grew up in Western New York, so I always felt a kinship with Tim Russert for that reason. He's the rare person who managed to achieve and grow without either forgetting his roots or saying in essence, "look how high I rose, yet I remember My Humble Beginnings!" He simply was who he was, with grace. We have indeed lost a great man.
